Uzbekistan has approved a new technical regulation on the safety of grain crops, Review reports. uz with reference to the resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers dated March 31, 2016.
Safety requirements apply to varieties of soft and durum wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, millet, rice, buckwheat, sorghum, triticale, leguminous crops - peas, lentils, chin, chickpeas, beans, mung bean, lupine, broad beans , vetch, as well as oilseeds - sunflower, soybeans, safflower, rapeseed, cotton, flax, peanuts, sesame, mustard.
The document defines the maximum permissible levels of toxic elements, pesticide residues, radionuclides, pest infestation, the content of harmful impurities in grain intended for food and feed purposes, sanitary and hygienic requirements for packaging and other parameters.
The production of grain crops and cotton occupies more than 80% of the country's total agricultural production. In 2015, according to preliminary data from the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, the total area under crops in farms of all categories amounted to almost 3.7 million hectares. Last year, more than 8 million tons of grain crops were produced in the country, of which almost 7 million tons were wheat. The volume of raw cotton produced in 2015 amounted to 3.36 million tons.
