This year, Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, known locally as the "granary of grain," has harvested rich grain crops for the 12th year in a row, said Wang Xiankui, secretary of the CPC Provincial Committee, at the 6th Plenary meeting of this committee of the 11th convocation.
According to him, the bountiful grain harvest in the province has been made possible by a number of measures, including increased investment in agricultural infrastructure, strengthening technical innovation and dissemination, and optimizing the agricultural structure.
According to statistics, this year's grain sown area in Heilongjiang has stabilized at over 210 million mu (1 ha = 15 mu), slightly more than the previous year. In particular, the sown areas of high-yielding rice and corn exceed 60 million and 100 million mu, respectively.
Heilongjiang leads China in grain production. In 2014, the province's gross grain harvest reached 62.4 million tons, accounting for 10 percent of the country's total grain production.
